Here at Core Surgery Interview we understand that the best way to succeed at the CST interview is with early, realistic practise. Our Core Surgery Interview Course is designed to simulate the interview experience and offer feedback and insider tips to help you ace the core surgery interviews and gain your preferred core surgery job.

Core Surgery Interview Course is a focused, interview course that features keynote lectures covering the interview and tips from last year's successful candidates before testing you with realistic interview stations via online mock interviews.

For 2024 the interactive lectures and mock interviews will be delivered online to match the real interviews

Designed for foundation doctors and anyone applying for core surgery participants the course feature interactive lectures and small group teaching with mock interview cases. Places are limited to maintain a high tutor to candidate ratio.

Our December course features MSRA (10% of the application score) and portfolio preparation (30% of the application score).

Core Surgery Interview Course Timetable

Our Core Surgery Interview Course begins at 10am and will be held online. The programme will feature interactive lectures containing the latest evidence-based clinical information and the latest tips on how to excel at the online interviews.

  • 0930-1000 Registration

    Arrive and grab a coffee, pastry and get ready for the day to start

  • 1000-1045 Portfolio and Application – Lecture and Small Groups

    All aspects of the core surgery application including scoring are covered. Learn how to optimise your surgical CV and portfolio to score maximum points and how to deal with tricky questions using core interview technique rather than stock answers.

  • 1045-1100 Break

    Break time!

  • 1100-1130 Management Questions - Key, Topics, Structure and Cases

    Understand the station format and learn key interview and communication techniques that will help you to present more fluidly to score top marks. Multiple examples of management scenarios are covered with group discussion and frameworks for tackling even the most challenging interview questions.

  • 1130-1230 Clinical Questions - Clinical Cases, Emergencies and Post-Op Care

    We cover as much of the core surgery syllabus as time allows and more importantly we help you to develop the communication skills and framework for answering any clinical questions under pressure in a way that will demonstrate safety, knowledge and score you maximum marks.

  • 1230-1300 Lunch

    Break for lunch

  • 1300-1600 Mock Cases - We cover everything else!

    Half of the day is spent in 1-1 mock interviews where you will be put under pressure and your knowledge and interview technique tested. The format is just like in the real interviews with the opportunity to learn from peers and last year's highest scoring candidates so that you will be fully prepared for the real interviews.

  • 1600-1630 Final Discussion and Home Time

    Any other topics are covered, feedback is given and remaining portfolios reviewed.
